Great British Summer Savings Scheme

TimeTwisters is participating in the
“Great British Summer Savings Scheme”…

Running from 25 June until 1st September 2026

Temporary reduction in VAT = Discounted entry for ALL the family

What is the Great British Summer Savings Scheme?

This is a new, but temporary, programme initiated by the current government to reduce the rate of VAT being charged for visits to certain types of family attractions over the period covering the 2026 School Summer Holidays.

The scheme is intended to offer support to families over the summer by reducing the cost of entry at some venues along with discounts to meals specifically intended for children.

It also aims to support businesses operating these venues by encouraging more visits over the summer period.

It is a temporary measure that will only apply for visits taking place from 25th June 2026 and  until 1st September 2026

VAT Reduction:
You might not be aware, but entry to TimeTwisters includes 20% VAT!  Yes, your child’s fun and exercise is taxed!

This is an amount that goes directly to the government (HMRC).

So, when you visit TimeTwisters, for every £10 you spend – £2 goes straight to government.

A Note about VAT in Indoor Play …

You might not be aware, but entry to TimeTwisters (and every other Indoor Play Centres) includes 20% VAT!  Yes, your child’s fun and exercise is taxed!

This is an amount that goes directly to the government (HMRC).

So, when you visit TimeTwisters, for every £10 you spend – £2 goes straight to HMRC.

This is different to most other goods and services for children:

  • Children’s clothes – 0% VAT
  • Children’s shoes – 0% VAT
  • Children’s books – 0%VAT
  • Children’s educational materials – 0% VAT
  • Children’s fancy dress hire – 0% VAT
  • Baby Food (from a supermarket) – 0% VAT
  • Baby Food (bought at TimeTwisters) – 20% VAT
  • Entry to Play Centre – 20% VAT

The Association of Indoor Play (AIP) — the governing body for Indoor Play businesses — is actively campaigning for the VAT treatment of the fun, exercise, social development and education your children receive at indoor play venues to be brought into line with other children’s goods and services. We think that’s absolutely right…

Children’s Play should not be taxed!

How is TimeTwisters participating in this scheme and how can you receive the discount.

Because the scheme only runs for a few weeks over the summer, we have decided to pass the savings onto our visitors via a discount code:

GBSS-VAT5

This discount/voucher code can be used for ALL online play session bookings running over the summer and every “Soft Play Party”* that will take place BEFORE 1st September 2026.

You’ll be happy to know that any kids meals you add onto your play session when you book in advance will also enjoy the benefit of the discount!

HOW MUCH IS THE DISCOUNT?

The GBSS scheme actually results in a price reduction of 12.5%

Why not 15% you might ask… good question:

The reduction of VAT from 20% to 5% applies to the final selling price of the service being offered.  So, for example, if you booked a Soft Play Party for £200 then under normal VAT rules £40 of this would need to be sent to HMRC, leaving £160 for the business to cover its expenses (staff wages, rent, rates, cleaning, maintenance, heating, etc.).  With the VAT rate being reduced to 5% for the summer the amount being sent to HMRC is reduced to £10 for the same party – leaving £190 in the business – a difference of £30 compared to normal VAT rules.  That £30 amount equates to 12.5% of the initial party cost – and it is that amount that the government is covering, and which TimeTwisters is passing on to you.

HOWEVER… We have decided to go one better and give everyone a full 15% discount off all online bookings covering the full admission prices, pre-booked kids meals and Soft Play Parties* for the duration of the summer

Simple use the voucher code GBSS-VAT5 when making your online booking

NOTE:  This discount is only available when booking online

* Unfortunately, Make-a-Bear Parties and LaserTag Parties include elements that fall outside the scope of the scheme, so the discount code cannot be applied to those bookings (sorry…HMRC rules!).  Standard VAT of 20% will continue to apply for those party types.

Since 2006, when we decided to take the plunge and open TimeTwisters, we’ve wanted to create the ultimate place to inspire children, stir their imagination and also teach them a few things along the way.

This summer, we ‘re proud to play our part in making that a little more affordable for every family.
